CLERMONT, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point softball team suffered its first pair of setbacks Monday morning, dropping a 5-0 game to Plymouth State (N.H.) and then a 7-6 heartbreaker to Tufts (Mass.)
The Pointers managed just four hits in the loss to the Panthers of Plymouth State including a triple by Sarah Butts (Greenfield/Greenfield). Cassie Krum (Stratford/Stratford) suffered the loss for the Pointers.
In game two the Pointers fell behind early and mounted a valiant comeback attempt, scoring five runs in the seventh, but fell just one run short of posting the game-tying run.
Elyse Nelson (Batavia, IL/Batavia) finished game two 2-for-2 from the plate and Kelly Arndt (Ashwaubenon, WI/Ashwaubenon) also posted two hits on the day including a double and a RBI. Michelle Jones (Madison, WI/La Follette) suffered the loss on the Pointers, falling behind before leaving the game due to an injury.
UW-Stevens Point (5-3) returns to action on Tuesday, March 22nd when the team will again face a pair of schools from the state of Maine in Bowdoin and Southern Maine.
