EAU CLAIRE – The UW-Stevens Point women's golf team opened the 2010 season with a sixth place finish at the Georgianni Memorial UWEC Invite at Mill Run Golf Course.

The Pointers fired a two day 709 (+129), led by Danelle Olson (Detroit Lakes, MN/Detroit Lakes)'s 165 (+20). Olson finished tied for seventh at the event out of 114 golfers who took the course.

UW-Eau Claire's Blue team won the event with a 645 (+65). The Blugolds were led by Sara Mattes, who finished second. Gustavus Adolphus' Katie Schenfeld took home the individual medalist honors with a 175 (+12).

Elsewhere for the Pointers, Mary Welsch finished tied for 26th with a two day 177 (+32). McKenna Prestigiacomo (Madison, WI/LaFollette) finished tied for 42nd with a 36-over 181, Olivia Schiefelbein (Johnston, IA/Johnston) finished tied for 67th with a two day 192 and Kayla Johnson (Shawano, WI/Shawano) finished tied for 72nd with a 196.

The Pointers continue their season next weekend, Sept. 11-12 at the UW-Oshkosh Invite.
