SPRING GREEN – The UW-Stevens Point women's golf team shot a two-day 686 en route to the team title at the 2010 UW-Platteville Fall Invite at the House on the Rock Golf Resort. Individually, the Pointers captured the top three spots at the event.

Mary Welch (Madison, WI/West) fired an opening round 81 on Saturday and followed that up with an 83 on Sunday to secure individual medalist honors with a score of 164. Welch's score was four strokes ahead of second place finisher Danelle Olson (Detroit Lakes, MN/Detroit Lakes), who tallied a two-day total of 168.

McKenna Prestigiacomo (Madison, WI/LaFollette) was not far off the pace, matching Olson's 86 on day one and shot an 83 on day two for a two-day 169, good for third place.

Elsewhere, Kayla Johnson (Shawano, WI/Shawano) finished ninth with a two-day 185 and Olivia Schiefelbein (Johnston, IA/Johnston) finished 21st with a 199.

The first place finish marks the second time this season the Pointers have finished as the top team at an event and the third time the Pointers have finished in the top two.

The Pointers will now return to the friendly confines of the Stevens Point Country Club when they host the UW-Stevens Point invite next Saturday and Sunday, October 2-3.

The invite will mark the final regular season meet of the fall before the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, which take place Oct. 8-10 at the Bulls Eye Country Club in Wisconsin Rapids.
