Pointers Run to Fourth at Oshkosh

OSHKOSH – The Pointer women's track & field team collected 78 team points on Saturday afternoon on their way to a fourth place finish at the 2010 Oshkosh Outdoor Invitational track & field meet. The Pointers posted two first-place finishes on the day.

UW-Oshkosh took home the team title, collecting 216 points at the event. Central College (Iowa) finished second and UW-Eau Claire finished third.

Bethany Utecht (Fredonia/Northern Ozaukee) placed first in the javelin throw with a toss of 40.51 meters (132' 11”), provisionally qualifying for the outdoor championships this spring. Michelle Holzer finished third in the event with a throw of 32.89m, (107'11”), earning the Pointers six team points.

Amy Hibbard (Green Bay/Bay Port) also earned the team six points by finishing third in the triple jump with a distance of 10.55m (34' 7.5”).

Elizabeth Caine (Plover/SPASH) posted a second place finish in the 100 meter dash, earning eight team points with a time of 12.15 in the event finals. Caine posted the same mark in the Platteville Outdoor Invitational earlier this season, which is a provisional qualifying time for the outdoor championships.

She also finished third in the 200 meter dash, posting a time of 24.87 seconds, good for four team points.

Sara and Erin Kline (Casco, WI/Luxemburg-Casco) improved on their provisional qualifying time in the 100 meter hurdles, as Sara posted a time of 14.63, good for first and Erin finished with a mark of 14.74, good for second. The tandem earned 18 points for the team.

Allison Wolter (Kaukauna/Kaukauna) finished third in the 1500 meter run with her time of 4:58.51 and Brittany Dantinne (Green Bay/Luxemberg-Casco) finished third in the women's 3000 meter steeplechase, posting a time of 13:35.4 in the event. Both finishes earned the Pointers a combined 12 points.

The Pointers will now head to UW-River Falls and the 2010 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Championships on May 7-8. The Pointer women's track & field team enters the weekend in search of just their second league title in program history. The first and only title came in 1976.
