CLERMONT, Fla. - The Pointer softball team concluded their southern sojourn with three victories on Friday, defeating Union College (N.Y.), University of Southern Maine and Grinnell College (Iowa). The Pointers complete their Florida trip with a record of 7-3.
In the day's first victory over Union, 2-1, the Pointers were led offensively by
Sarah Butts, who continued her hot hitting, tallying two hits in the game.
Kimberly Liegel also finished the day 2-4 while
Michelle Jones pitched the complete game, earning the victory.
Against Southern Maine, the Pointer bats stayed hot, as
Elyse Nelson,
Kristen Selbach and Liegel all tallied multiple hits on the day.
Chelsea Hensler picked up the win while Jones came in to pick up the save in the Pointers 8-3 downing of the Huskies.
In the day's final game against Grinnell, a make-up game from a rain-out earlier in the trip, the Pointers used a trio of pitching performances from Nelson,
Cassie Krum and Jones to tame the Pioneer offense on their way to a 10-6 victory. Offensively, the Pointers belted eight extra-base hits including six doubles and a triple to tally the win.
Lauren Watkins led the way with a 2-4 preformance at the plate, recording a triple and a home run (1).
The Pointers return to action on April 1 when they travel to Milwaukee for a doubleheader against Cardinal Stritch. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
