Day Two at the Dome

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Pointer softball team closed the second day of the 2010 Findlandia Dome Tournament with a .500 record, winning the day's first game 3-1 over Simpson College before falling to Marian University 6-5 in their tournament finale.

In the Pointers 3-1 win over Simpson, Sarah Butts provided almost all of the Pointers offense, collecting three hits on the day including a two-run home run to power UW-Stevens Point to victory. Michelle Jones picked up the complete game victory, allowing just six hits and striking out two.

In the finale, the Pointers were unable to leave the tournament with a winning record, falling to the Sabers 6-5.

Brittany Zelenka tallied two hits on the day while Melissa Wenig belted a three-run home run and drove in four runs on the day.

The Pointers return to action March 21 when they travel to Clermont, Fla. for the NTC Spring Games. The Pointers will face 10 different opponents while in Florida, starting with Grinnell (Iowa) on March 21.
