Women's Track Sixth at WIAC Indoor Championships

PLATTEVILLE – The Pointer women's indoor track & field team collected 76 team points on their way to a sixth place finish at the 2010 WIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at UW-Platteville.

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse won its fourth straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship at UW-Platteville's Pioneer Activity Center on Feb. 27-28.

The Eagles, who possess a league-best 20 crowns, captured this year's title with 166.50 team points to surpass UW-Eau Claire's second-place sum of 119.50 points.  UW-Oshkosh finished third with 118 points, UW-River Falls fourth with 84 points, UW-Whitewater fifth with 78 points, UW-Stevens Point sixth with 76 points, UW-Platteville seventh with 45 points and UW-Stout eighth with 15 points.  UW-Superior also participated in the championship.

UW-La Crosse secured three individual and one relay first-place finish enroute to the championship.  Katelynn Williams was victorious in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:45.64 and Leeanne Nowicki captured the high jump with a leap of 5-7.  Ashton May claimed the triple jump with a mark of 38-7 3/4, while Kailey Charlton, Kelsey Katarow, Lauren Seidl and Laurel Beck earned the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:42.85.

UW-Oshkosh's Camille Davis claimed the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.34, while Ellie Sitek won the shot put with a heave of 45-10 3/4 and Holly Ozanich was victorious in the 20-pound weight throw with a fling of 58-8.

UW-Whitewater's Brooke Bell secured the 55-meter dash for the second time in her career with a time of 7.14.  She also won the event in 2008.  Teammate Danielle Anton became the first Warhawk in program history to win the pentathlon after totaling 3,120 points.  Sara Poppe placed first in the long jump with a leap of 18-3 1/4.

UW-Eau Claire's Hannah Humbach placed first in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:23.19, while Hayley Suckow captured the pole vault with a height of 12-2 3/4.

UW-Stevens Point's Sara Kline (Casco/Luxemberg-Casco) became the first Pointer in program history to win the 55-meter hurdles, producing a time of 8.43, while Claire Roberts (Oakfield/Horace Mann) claimed the one-mile run with a time of 4:57.21.

UW-Platteville's Ann Tank was victorious in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.56.

UW-River Falls' Natasha Arnold became the first Falcon to win the 400-meter dash with a clocking of 57.64.   The Falcons also won the 4x400-meter relay for the first time in program listings with a time of 3:56.51.  Alyssa Rasmussen, Samantha Nyre, Kali Meurer and Arnold comprised the winning team. 

The UW-River Falls quartet of Leah Korf, Brittany Nordland, Carly Eggert and Rasmussen were victorious in the distance medley relay with a time of 12:36.40.

UW-La Crosse's Ashton May and UW-Oshkosh's Sue Trzebiatowski shared the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award. 

An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.  Named to the squad were:  UW-Eau Claire's Kelly Palmer, UW-La Crosse's Claire Kaufman, UW-Oshkosh's Sarah Roswell, UW-Platteville's Shea Bierman, UW-River Falls' Carly Eggert, UW-Stevens Point's Sandy Hause, UW-Stout's Ashlea Peter, UW-Superior's Cassey Hoffmann and UW-Whitewater's Hayley Tenpas.
