PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point women's golf team shot a final day 322 to hold onto their second place standing and finish as National Runner-Up at the 2009 NCAA Division III Championships at the Wanamaker PGA Golf Club in Florida.
It is the highest finish by the Pointer golf team in school history.
Methodist University, who entered the final day 19 strokes ahead of the Pointers, finished with a final day 316 for a team total of 1257, winning their 12th straight national title. The Pointers four day total of 1282 placed them second. Gustavus Adolphus finished in third, shooting a team total of 1297.
Fellow Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) UW-Eau Claire finished in sixth place, shooting a four day 1306.
Junior
Jessica Urban (Hartland), who entered the tournament as the nation's top-ranked player and earlier in the week was named the National Golfer of the Year, finished the tournament in second place. She shot a day four low 73 to finish the tournament with a 297, just three strokes off first-place finisher Susan Martin of Methodist.
Elsewhere,
Michelle Pascavis (Waukesha) finished tied for 20th, shooting 325 for the tournament.
Nacheynah Green (Poynette) finished tied for 31st (328),
Danelle Olson (Detroit Lakes, MN) finished tied for 64th (337) and
Amanda Dlugopolski (Appleton) finished tied for 75th (342).
