JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - The UW-Stevens Point women's golf team opened the first tournament of the spring in dramatic fashion, defeating some of the nation's top teams and shooting a three-day 982, securing the Jekyll Island Collegiate by five strokes.
The Pointers, who ended day one of the three day tournament in third place, fired a day-two 316 to jump into the lead by four strokes and shot a final day 323, capturing the tournament crown.
Leading the charge was junior
Jessica Urban (Hartland, Arrowhead), who fired a day three 75, coming from seven shot down to capture the tournament's top individual spot. Urban's three day total of 238 (+22) was two strokes better than Emily Bachert of Centre College, who held the tournament lead the first two days.
Elsewhere for the Pointers,
Michelle Pascavis (Waukesha, South) finished tied for fourth, shooting a three-day 244 (+28).
Nacheynah Green (Poynette), who fired a 76 on the tournament's second day, finished tied for 13th.
Danelle Olson (Detroit Lakes, MN) finished tied for 17th, shooting a 253 (+37) and
Amanda Dlugopolski (Appleton, East) shot a 260 (+44), tied for 31st.
Southwestern University finished in second, Illinois Wesleyan third and Gustavus Adolphus finished fourth.
