KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Pointers posted a 1-1 record on their second day in Florida, dropping their first game in extra innings to #19 Illinois Wesleyan 3-1 before rebounding with a 1-0 victory over McDaniel (Mass.).
Tied 1-1 after seven, Wesleyan tallied two runs in the top of the extra frame to secure the victory.
Kayla Kastenmeier (Ashwaubenon) took the loss for the Pointers, scattering seven hits over eight innings of work.
Kimberly Liegel (Madison) led the way at the plate, registering two hits including a double and a RBI.
In game two,
Lauren Watkins (Baraboo) gave the Pointers all the runs they needed, hitting a solo home run at the top of the sixth to break the scoreless tie.
From there,
Elyse Nelson (Batavia, IL, Batavia) continued to keep the McDaniel hitters guessing, earning her first collegiate win as a pitcher, scattering six hits and striking out three in the shutout victory.
The Pointers (5-3) return to action on March 17 with games against Westminster and Endicott at the Rebel Games.
