MINNEAPOLIS - The UW-Stevens Point softball team scored eight runs on just four hits and held Concordia-Moorhead to a single run picking up their second win of the season in the first game of a doubleheader against the Cobbers on the second day of play at the Augsburg Dome Tournament.
The Cobber fought back, handing the Pointers a 1-0 loss in game two, thanks in part to a two-hit shutout from Moorhead's Kelsey Jones.
Elyse Nelson (Batavia, IL, Batavia) was 2-4 in game one and was responsible for two runs and four RBI including a three-run home run in the top of the seventh to seal the win.
Kayla Kastenmeier (Ashwaubenon) earned her second victory of the season, going the distance and recording seven strikeouts.
In game two, Moorhead's Jones allowed just two hits and struck out nine, shutting out the Pointers 1-0.
Allie Dorn (Greenville, Fox Valley Lutheran) took the loss for the Pointers, pitching 5.2 innings, skattering five hits and recording one strikeout.
UW-Stevens Point (2-2) will next take the field in sunny Kissimmee, Fla. when the team will face ten opponents in five days as part of the Rebel Games over spring break. Action begins on March 15 as the Pointers take on Washington & Jefferson at 9 a.m.
