ARKDALE – UW-Stevens Point fired a 54-hole 1,039 to finish third at the 2009 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) women's golf championships Oct. 9-11 at the Northern Bay Golf Resort & Marina.
UW-Eau Claire took home the league title, their sixth in program history, after UW-Stevens Point captured the previous two. UW-Whitewater took second with a three-day 1005. UW-Stout finished fourth with a 1059, UW-Platteville finished fifth with a 1077, UW-Oshkosh finished sixth with 1128 and UW-River Falls was seventh with 1135.
Leading the way for the Pointers was senior
Jessica Urban (Hartland), who fired a one under par 72 on the tournament's final day to finish second with a three day 233. Her 72 on the tournament's final day was the second lowest score in conference tournament history.
Elsewhere for the Pointers,
Danelle Olson (Detroit Lakes, MN) finished tied for 10th, shooting an 80 on the final two days of the tournament to finish with a 251.
Mary Donohue (Portage), who opened the tournament with a day one 88, fired an 86 the final two rounds to post a three day 260, good for a 17th place finish.
Olivia Scheifelbein (Johnson Park, IA) finished the tournament with a 295, good for 40th.
An All-Sportsmanship Team was announced for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. The team included one member from each school as selected by that school.
Named to the squad were: UW-Eau Claire's Katie Swift, UW-Oshkosh's Emily Wichman, UW-Platteville's Tricia Pawelski, UW-River Falls' Kelly Gordh,
UW-Stevens Point's Jessica Urban (Hartland/Arrowhead), UW-Stout's Kelsey Treptow and UW-Whitewater's Lindsay Porter.
UW-Stout head coach Howie Samb was voted the Coach of the Year by the league coaches.
