Dr. Heather Curtiss

  • Title
    Team Physician
Dr. Heather Curtiss is starting her second year as a team physician supporting the UW SP Pointers.  Her main goal is to provide exceptional medical care to the athletes as they strive to represent their school and fellow students on the sports field.

After personal experience with a significant knee injury, Dr. Curtiss is now in a position to help others as a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist with additional fellowship training in sports medicine.  Having participated in collegiate athletics, she understands the importance of the mission of student athletes.  “I thoroughly enjoy guiding athletes through their sports career emphasizing preventative strategies, but also efficiently managing any injuries that should happen by reducing the recovery time.  Time lost from play can really limit a student’s sports career”.

Dr. Curtiss earned a master’s degree in kinesiology and biomechanics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  She earned her medical degree at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, completed her physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at Mayo Clinic and finished her training with a sports medicine fellowship at University of Utah.  She specializes in non-operative management of all musculoskeletal and neurologic injuries.

She has a special interest in using musculoskeletal ultrasound to diagnose and treat bone and joint injuries.  “Ultrasound has become extremely helpful in the early diagnosis of sports injuries and a critical tool when decisions need to be made quickly on the sports field”.  Ultrasound and all of Dr. Curtiss’ skills will be readily available for the UW SP athletes this year!

Dr. Curtiss is supported by her husband and two children who also enjoy coming out to cheer for the Pointers!
