Dr. Albert Cecchini, fellowship trained in sports medicine, is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in injuries common in a variety of sports. For him, helping an athlete get back to 100 percent is the ultimate achievement.
“I’ve played sports throughout my life, and I’m most interested in helping athletes through medicine,” said Cecchini, who is part of Marshfield Clinic’s Orthopedics Sports Medicine team. “Working with athletes is so rewarding because they’re highly motivated people who want to get back to their sports. It’s great to see people through an injury and watch them return to 100 percent.”
Cecchini focuses his practice on advanced procedures that can restore function. Repair techniques — even for ACL injuries — are all done arthroscopically now, which is less invasive. Physicians also now have new options for attaching, grafting and implanting torn ligaments, which make it easier for the body to heal. These new alternatives allow Cecchini to help many athletes recover function more quickly.
“My main interest is sports-related injuries, particularly reconstructive surgery of the knee and shoulder,” Cecchini said. “I also take care of general orthopedic problems like fractures; overuse injuries; and cartilage, muscle and ligament tears.”
Family is important to Cecchini. He, his wife and their three children spend a week each year with his extended family. “Everyone from 2 years old to 80 years old shows up,” he said. “It’s a great time to reconnect.”
Fellowship-trained in sports medicine, Cecchini is also board certified in orthopedic surgery. He earned his medical degree at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Boston University Medical Center. His sports fellowship training was at MCP Hahnemann University in Philadelphia.
