University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point Athletics

Danelle Smith is in her sixth year as the clinical coordinator for athletic training at UW-Stevens Point.
 
Prior to UW-Stevens Point, Smith spent 10 years at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. She spent last year as BVU’s athletic training education program director, instructing in the athletic training education program and the exercise science department.
 
Before accepting that position, Smith spent nine seasons as a clinical education coordinator, assistant athletic trainer and assistant professor at Buena Vista where she taught several classes as well as oversaw the athletic training needs of the volleyball, women’s basketball and men’s tennis teams.
 
Smith also spent time as an assistant athletic trainer at the University of Evansville in Indiana from 1999-2002 and at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, S.D., from 1997-99 where she also served as the head volleyball coach.  
 
Smith holds a master’s degree in athletic training from Western Michigan University and received her bachelor’s degree in physical education from UW-Oshkosh. She is completing her doctoral studies looking at athletic training preceptor education.  She works with area athletic trainers and other health care professionals to place UWSP AT students in clinical experiences to help increase their exposure to hands-on learning.
