STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (4-2-3) held Coe (3-6-0) to just two shots on goal in a 2-0 win over the Kohawks at Point Soccer Bowl on Saturday.
Christa Borchardt (New Berlin, Wis./West) got the Pointers on the board in the 26th minute. Her team-leading fifth of the season was the eventual game-winner.
Katelyn Vitkus (Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph Catholic Academy) had an assist on the goal, her first collegiate point.
UWSP's defense held the Kohawks without a shot attempt over the first 45 minutes of play.
In the 49th minute,
Sophia Ryan (Orland Park, Ill./Victor J. Andrew) gave the Pointers a 2-0 lead. She ripped a shot under the bar for first goal of the season.
Piper Gunderson (Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and
Liliana Martinez (Portland, Ore./Rex Putnam) had assists on the goal.
UWSP goaltender
Jocelyn Blahnik (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) needed to make just two saves in the second half to record the shutout. The 90 minutes of shutout play lowered Blahnik's league-leading goals against average to 0.17 on the season.
The Pointers will face Ripon at Point Soccer Bowl on Tuesday (Sept. 29) at 4:00 p.m.
