STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (5-2-3) rolled to a 6-1 win over visiting Ripon (3-6-1) on Tuesday.
Piper Gunderson (Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) got the scoring started in the fourth minute with her first goal of the match.
Kayce Wadas (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) and
Christa Borchardt (New Berlin, Wis./West) had assists on the goal.
Borchardt doubled the UWSP lead in the 35th minute. Her eventual goal-winner was assisted on by
Aaliyah Carter (Birmingham, Ala./Shades Valley) and
Katelyn Vitkus (Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph Catholic Academy).
The Redhawks pulled one back in the 41st minute to get within 2-1.
Grace Peters (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) pushed the lead back to two goals in the 44th minute. Her first of the game was an unassisted tally.
In the 50th minute, the Pointers' lead grew to 4-1 as Ripon scored an own goal.
Gunderson completed her brace in the 63rd minute. Wadas and
Piper Hanley (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) had assists on the goal to make it 5-1.
Peters netted her brace in the 76th minute. Wadas and Hanley again assisted on the goal for the 6-1 advantage.
Jocelyn Blahnik (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) got the win in net for the Pointers making one save. Ripon goalkeeper Kayla Klang made eight saves.
The Pointers travel to UW-La Crosse on Saturday (Oct. 3) at 2:00 p.m. to open conference play.
