WAVERLY, Iowa — UW.-Stevens Point women's soccer team (3-2-3, 0-0) fell to Wartburg College (2-3-1, 0-0) 1-0 on Saturday. Pointers late second-half push was not enough to overcome the deficit.
The Pointers recorded more shots than Wartburg, finishing with 14 shots and seven on goal compared with 11 and four for the Knights.
The Pointers fell behind in the first half when Wartburg found the back of the net at 23:38, putting Wartburg ahead 1-0. Earlier,
Rita Danner (West Des Moines, Iowa/Waukee) put two shots on goal, and
Christa Borchardt (New Berlin, Wis./West) added another saved attempt in the 36th minute. UWSP kept the deficit at one through a late Wartburg push, and the first half ended with Wartburg leading 1-0.
Trailing 1-0, the Pointers pressed for an equalizer in the second half, generating six shots and three corner kicks from 72:43 to 81:53 without finding the net.
Jocelyn Blahnik (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) recorded three saves in 90 minutes of play. Wartburg's keeper saved all seven Pointer shots.
The Pointers return home on Saturday (Sept. 26) for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff against Coe College at the Point Soccer Bowl.
