ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (3-3) won its ninth-consecutive set with a sweep of Augustana (2-3) on Friday night in Illinois.
Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) led all players with eight kills in the match.
Hannah Strege (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) was the lone Pointer in double figures on the night with 12 assists.
Abby Nevins (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) led the Pointers with nine digs.
Delilah Hyland (Glen Ellyn, Ill./IC Catholic Prep) had a kill and a pair of blocks as UWSP jumped in front, 11-5, in the first set. Shaw and
Ella Trieloff (Park Ridge, Ill./St. Viator) each had a pair of kills as the Pointers won the first set, 25-15.
Tessa Erlandson (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon Wanamingo) and
Megan Buri (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Durham Hall) each served an ace to give the Pointers a 9-4 advantage to start the second. Shaw and
Carly Thomka (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) had three kills apiece in an 8-1 run for a 19-10 lead.
Jaiden Schneiderman (German Valley, Ill./Forreston) had two late kills as UWSP won, 25-14.
Isabelle Axelson (Eureka, Ill./Eureka) had two kills and a block early in the third. Shaw had a pair of kills and Axelson closed out the sweep with her fourth kills of the set as UWSP got the third set, 25-22.
The Pointers will face Illinois College on Saturday (Sept. 12) at 12:00 p.m. to close out the season-opening seven-match road swing.
