OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point softball team (23-11, 5-7) dropped a pair of close games at No. 14 UW-Oshkosh (29-5-1, 10-1) on Thursday. UWSP fell in 10 innings in game one, 4-3, before being shut out and no hit in game two, 4-0.
Ella Smith (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) had two hits in game one.
Trinity Otto (Mequon, Wis./Homestead),
Morgan Harwood (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) and Ashley Lecavalier each had an RBI.
Game 1 – UWSP 3, UWO 4 (10 inn.)
UWO got on the board in the third with a walk, a single and a sac fly.
Otto hit the first pitch of the fourth inning out to right field for a home run to tie the game at 1-1.
Sophie Schmidt (Twin Lakes, Wis./Wilmot Union) doubled to start the sixth. Smith followed with a single and
Kodi Rizzo (Newark, Ill./Newark Community) drew a walk to load the bases. Harwood was hit by a pitch to push in a run. Lecavalier was also hit with a pitch as UWSP went up, 3-1.
The Titans scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull even at 3-3.
The game remained deadlocked at 3-3 until the bottom of the 10th. UWO used three hits to push home the winning run.
Harwood pitched 4.0 innings in the start. She struck out six. Rizzo pitched the final 5.1 innings with two strikeouts.
Game 2 – UWSP 0, UWO 4
With one away in the first,
Hailee Thompson (Bonduel, Wis./Bonduel) was hit by a pitch and
Kaitlyn Roberts (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) drew a walk. Both were stranded after consecutive pop ups.
The Titans scored four times in the third inning on five hits.
Hannah Roepke (Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) drew a walk to start the sixth. Two batters later, Thompson drew a walk. Roberts was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but UWSP could not get a run home in the inning.
Mallorie Kreuser (Verona, Wis./Verona) had one strikeout over 2.2 innings in the start.
Ashley Zygowski (Saukville, Wis./Port Washington) tossed 3.1 hitless innings and struck out three.
The Pointers will host UW-River Falls on Saturday (May 2) to wrap up regular season conference play. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
