Van Dyke Records Season-High Goals in Conference Loss to Hamline

ST. PAUL, Minn.—The UW-Stevens Point women's lacrosse team (7-4, 1-2) traveled to St. Paul for a conference match up with Hamline (10-2, 2-2), falling to a 22-12 final. In the back-and-forth battle with the Pipers, junior, Marissa Van Dyke (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Southwest) recorded a season-high five goals.
 
Hamline netted the first two goals of the game. Addison Novack (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) notched the Pointers' first goal of the game at 10:59 off an assist from Van Dyke. Nearly a minute later, Rowan Dunn (Janesville, Wis./Joseph A. Craig) evened the game. The Pipers regained the lead at 5:28 of the first.
 
Hamline opened the second quarter with two goals, just before Katie Wigen (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids) recorded a free-position goal at 11:16 to get UWSP within two goals. The Pipers extended their lead by three goals. Van Dyke scored her first goal of the evening at 2:01 on a free-position attempt to cut the Pipers' lead in half. Ava Muller (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) netted the Pointers' final goal of the quarter with 59 seconds remaining off an assist from Van Dyke. Hamline recorded the final goal of the quarter with 34 seconds remaining, extending their lead to 9-5.
 
Van Dyke completed her hat trick opening the third quarter, with back-to-back unassisted goals. The Pipers extended their lead to 13-7 with four goals. Van Dyke netted her fourth goal of the afternoon at 7:11. Hamline pushed four more goals across, to go up 17-8 going into the final quarter.
 
Van Dyke netted her final goal at 13:58 off an assist from Kaylee Slane (Portage, Mich./Central). Hamline tacked on an additional goal at 11:57. Thirty-seconds later, Barrie Bahr (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) found the back of the net off an assist from Van Dyke. The Pipers responded with another goal at 8:57. Elysia Pitts (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) secured the draw for the Pointers, resulting in a goal for Ali Senart (Muskego, Wis./Muskego). Senart picked up a ground ball at 7:26 to set Novack up for the Pointers' final goal. The Pipers ended the game with three goals.
 
The Pointers secured 15 draw controls in the loss. Van Dyke led with four, Abbey Boersma (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) and Pitts with three, Novack and Amelia Kiedinger (Green Bay, Wis./De Pere) each secured two and Violet Mueller (Minneapolis, Minn./Roosevelt) secured one.
 
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) was in goal, making a season-high 18 saves in 60 minutes of play.
 
The Pointers are back on the road on Wednesday (Apr. 15) to face UW-Eau Claire for a 5:00 p.m. opening draw.
