Pointers Swept by UWRF as Bats Stymied in Series Finale

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (9-15, 3-11) dropped both games in the series finale against UW-River Falls (13-11, 7-7) on Saturday. The Pointers fell in game one, 3-0, before dropping game two by a 10-4 final.
 
Easton Snow (DeForest, Wis./DeForest Area) had UWSP only two hits in game one. Nick Argersinger (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) had two of UWSP's six hits in game two.
 
Game 1 – UWSP 0, UWRF 3
The Falcons hit a two-run home run with two outs in the top of the third to put UWSP in a 2-0 hole.
 
Snow was UWSP's first base runner with a one-out single in the bottom of the third. He moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a groundout, but was stranded aboard.
 
Tommy Drohner (Plover, Wis./SPASH) was hit by a pitch in the sixth. Tino Ramirez (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) drew a walk later in the inning and both were left on base as the finning ended.
 
Snow had another single in the eighth, but only made it to second on a wild pitch.
 
Josh Steger (Lomira, Wis./Lomira) allowed just three hits over 6.0 innings in the start. He struck out six. JT Hockers (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) tossed 3.0 hitless frames in relief with one strikeout.
 
Game 2 – UWSP 4, UWRF 10
Kamden Oliver (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) drew a walk to start game two. He moved to second on a sac bunt and reached third on a single by Cooper Brown (Appleton, Wis./West). With two away, a failed double-steal attempt ended the inning without a run scoring.
 
The Falcons put up three runs on four hits and a hit batter in the second to put UWSP in a 3-0 hole.
 
Argersinger doubled to lead off the second. He moved to third on a groundout and scored on a sac fly by Drohner to get UWSP on the board.
 
UWRF tacked on two runs in the third and three more in the fourth as UWSP fell behind, 8-1.
 
Drohner singled to begin the fifth. Mason Fink (Verona, Wis./Verona) drew a walk and Connor Olson (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) hit a double to push home one run. Oliver grounded out to plate another run. After Ramirez drew a walk to put runners on the corners, Brown hit a sac fly to get the Pointers within 8-4.
 
The Falcons added single tallies in the sixth and the eighth to close out the scoring.
 
UWSP got a two-out hit in the eighth from Argersinger. Drew Mistele (Baraboo, Wis./Baraboo) was hit by a pitch and Drohner drew aa walk to load the bases, but a flyout ended the rally.
 
Easton Zempel (Middleton, Wis./Middleton), Ben Janowski (Wauwatosa, Wis./West), Keltin Opper (Stevens Point, Wis./Pacelli), Peyton Soule (Oregon, Wis./Oregon), Jake Williams (Carol Stream, Ill./Wheaton North), Preston Walsh (Fox River Grove, Ill./Cary-Grove) and Oliver Gonzalez (Milwaukee, Wis./St. Thomas More) recorded a strikeout each on the mound.
 
The Pointers travel to St. Norbert for a non-conference game at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday (Apr. 16).
