Five Pointers Earn WIAC Honors, Raimer Co-Newcomer of the Year

MADISON, Wis – Five members of the UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team were bestowed honors as the All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) team were announced on Wednesday (Mar. 4). Freshman Max Raimer (Sun Prairie, Wis./East) was named Co-Newcomer of the Year. Juniors Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) and Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) earned All-WIAC first-team honors. Fellow junior Logan Baumgartner (Medford, Wis./Medford) garnered All-WIAC honorable mention accolades and sophomore Carter Combs (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) landed on the WIAC All-Defense team. Junior James Jacobs (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) was named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship team.

Raimer nabs WIAC Newcomer of the Year accolades after playing in all 26 games for UWSP this season. He averaged 5.2 points per game in 18.3 minutes per game. He hauled in 42 rebounds, had 15 assists and 15 steals with two blocked shots. Raimer posted double figures in five games, three times against NCAA Tournament participants, including a season-best 20 points in a win over UW-La Crosse.
 
Butler earns his second-straight first-team honor and third overall from the league. He was second in the WIAC in scoring at 18.6 points per game and was second in the conference with a .901 free-throw percentage. On the season, Butler was in double figures 22 times with 13 games of 20 or more points. He registered a season-high 34 points at UW-La Crosse. In November, Butler was named MVP of the UWSP Pre-Thanksgiving Tournament. On Jan. 10, he became the 34th player in program history to amass 1,000 career points. He enters this week's NCAA Tournament with 1,226 points, go for 20th in school history.
 
Miron snags his first career conference award. He started all 26 games and is averaging 14.8 points per game, eighth-most in the WIAC. Miron leads the Pointers in assists this season with 94, third-most in the league. He has set career highs in rebounds (123), assists (94), field goal percentage (.484) and made field goals (147 overall, 34 three-pointers). He scored in double figures 20 times this season, including a season-high 34 points at North Park and his first career double-double at North Central.
 
Baumgartner rakes in his first career conference honor. He started 25 games and played in all 26. He is tied with Butler for the team lead with 52 made three-pointers. Baumgartner is averaging a career-high 11.0 points per game. He also has career highs this season in rebounds (96), assists (36), steals (29), blocked shots (11), field goal percentage (.429) and made field goals (90 overall). He scored in double figures in 15 games this season, including a season-high 21 at North Park.
 
Combs picks up all-defensive team honors, his first career conference award. He led the Pointers with 154 rebounds, 131 on the defensive glass. Combs was sixth in the league in total rebounds and fourth in defensive rebounds.  He is second on the team in assists with 83, fifth-most in the league. He is second in the conference with a 2.2 assist-to-turnover ratio.  Combs was in double figures five times, including a double-double with season highs of 13 rebounds and 12 points at UW-Eau Claire.
 
Jacobs was named to the all-sportsmanship team after playing in 15 games this season. He scored 13 points on 6-for-11 shooting (.545) from the floor. He snagged nine rebounds, two steals and dished four assists in 59 minutes of action.
 
UWSP will face the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in the NCAA Tournament first round on Friday (Mar. 6) at 4:50 p.m. Tickets go on sale on Thursday (Mar. 5) at 8:00 a.m. exclusively online.
