Early Lead Not Enough For Pointers, Van Dyke Records Hat Trick

NOTRE DAME, Ind.-- The UW-Stevens Point women's lacrosse team (5-2) recorded the game's first goal, but it wasn't enough falling, 13-7, to Saint Mary's College (8-1) on Friday evening.

Freshman Ava Muller (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) put the Pointers on the board first at 6:20 in the first quarter on a player-up opportunity, unassisted for the lone goal of the quarter.

Saint Mary's netted the equalizer at 12:12 of the second quarter. Marissa Van Dyke (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Southwest) took the Pointers' lead back at 9:19, her first of the game. Aubrey Keeping (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead) extended the Pointers' lead to two goals at 7:00. Saint Mary's answered back with two goals, one on a player-up opportunity to make it a 3-3 tie game. Muller regained the lead with seven seconds remaining in the half on a free-position goal.

Saint Mary's opened the third quarter with two back-to-back goals, taking the lead 5-4. Barrie Bahr (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) found the back of the net at 11:54 off an assist from Van Dyke to tie the game again. Saint Mary's controlled multiple draws resulting in six goals and an 11-5 lead for the Belles. On a player-down opportunity, Keeping found Van Dyke for her second goal of the game at 3:52.

Saint Mary's extended its lead to 12-6 at 8:12. Van Dyke completed her hat trick at 5:16 off an assist from Muller, to inch closer to the Belles' lead. Saint Mary's netted the final goal of the game on a player-up opportunity at 4:24.

Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) was in goal, making five saves in 60 minutes of play.
