DAVENPORT, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (3-3) got its first win on Florida in walk-off fashion, 5-4, against St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) (0-5).
Tyler Soule (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) and
Connor Olson (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) had three hits and an RBI each. Soule also scored a run.
Tommy Drohner (Plover, Wis./SPASH) and
Tino Ramirez (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) both added two hits and a run scored. Ramirez also drove in a run.
UWSP faced an early deficit as the Bears used a walk, a stolen base and a double to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
Josh Steger (Lomira, Wis./Lomira) started the second inning with a single. Drohner drew a walk and both moved into scoring position on a wild pitch.
Mason Fink (Verona, Wis./Verona) lifted a sac fly to left to tie the game at 1-1. Ramirez followed with an RBI single to put the Pointers ahead, 2-1. With two away, Soule ripped a triple into the left-center gap for a 3-1 lead.
Soule hit a double with one down in the sixth and moved to third on a wild pitch. Olson singled to push Soule home for a 4-1 lead.
St. Joseph's got two runs back in the seventh on a walk and two hits. The Bears tied the game in the eighth with an unearned run.
Cooper Brown (Appleton, Wis./West) drew a walk to begin the bottom of the ninth. Two batters later, Drohner singled to put two aboard.
Easton Snow (DeForest, Wis./DeForest Area) followed and ripped a shot past the third baseman down the line for a walk-off win.
Steven Wintheiser (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) went 4.0 innings in the start. He struck out five.
Bryce Ehr (Plover, Wis./SPASH) struck out two in 2.0 innings. Joe Schnieder tossed the final 2.2 innings with four strikeouts to earn the win.
The Pointers face the University of Mount Saint Vincent at 2:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday (Mar. 17).
