DAVENPORT, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (2-3) fell to Saint John's (5-3) in UWSP's opener in Florida on Sunday by a 6-2 final.
Nick Argersinger (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) recorded two hits.
Tino Ramirez (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) and
Cooper Brown (Appleton, Wis./West) each had a hit and an RBI.
Argersinger and
Tyler Soule (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) had back-to-back two-out singles in the third, but both remained on base as the inning ended.
Tommy Drohner (Plover, Wis./SPASH) got a two-out single in the fourth,
Isaac Beeler (Austin, Texas/Westlake) followed with a walk and again UWSP stranded two aboard.
SJU broke the scoreless tie with a solo home run in the fourth. The Johnnies added a run in the fifth on a pair of hits.
Josh Steger (Lomira, Wis./Lomira) hit a double with one away in the seventh. Ramirez followed with a single to right as UWSP got within 2-1.
SJU used two hits and two walks to score twice in the bottom of the seventh.
Connor Olson (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) drew a walk to start the eighth.
Kamden Oliver (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) singled to center and both moved into scoring position on a passed ball. Brown roped a single to center to push in a run as UWSP made it 4-2.
The Johnnies scored twice in the eighth on three hits and a walk to put the score at 6-2.
Argersinger had a one-out single in the ninth, but UWSP couldn't mount a rally.
Kenny Schultz (Plover, Wis./SPASH) went 6.0 innings in the start and struck out five.
Kaeden Wagenaar (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) recorded a strikeout in 2.0 innings of relief.
The Pointers face St. Joseph's of Brooklyn at 10:00 a.m. ET on Monday (Mar. 16).
