Pointers Complete Comeback, Van Dyke Records 100th Career Point

MEQUON, Wis. — The UW-Stevens Point women's lacrosse team (2-0) defeated Concordia University (Wis.) (1-2) via a stellar comeback performance by the Pointers, winning by a 12-9 final.
 
CUW controlled the first 13 minutes of the game, taking an early 3-0 lead. Rowan Dunn (Janesville, Wis./Joseph A. Craig) caused a CUW turnover to create a breakaway opportunity for an Aubrey Keeping (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead) goal with four minutes remaining in the quarter. CUW scored again with 19 seconds remaining to take the lead 4-1 going into the second quarter.
 
The slow offensive start for the Pointers started a fire for the second quarter. Barrie Bahr (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) scored her first goal of the evening at 10:21 off an assist from Ava Muller (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) to get within two goals. At 9:20, Abbey Boersma (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) received a free-position opportunity, which turned into the Pointers' second goal in less than a minute. Jocee Tanner (Tremonton, Utah/Bear River) broke up a clear attempt at 7:36, attacking the net at 7:12, she recorded her first collegiate goal on a player-up opportunity. Less than 30 seconds later, Boersma found Bahr for a goal to take the lead. CUW equalized at 3:45 on a player-up opportunity.
 
The Pointers were not giving up in the third quarter. Kaylynn Gracyalny (Pulaski, Wis./Pulaski) found Keeping for the lead at 12:24. CUW answered back with a free-position goal at 10:07. That wasn't stopping Bahr, she completed a hat trick at 9:06, the eventual game-winning goal. Marissa Van Dyke (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Southwest) recorded her 100th career point, the second Pointer in program history, on an assist to Muller at 8:34. After strong defensive stands, Keeping found Van Dyke at 5:23 to extend the Pointers' lead to 9-6. Keeping completed the Pointers' second hat trick of the game at 4:19.
 
Bahr opened the fourth quarter, scoring her fourth goal of the game off an assist from Keeping at 11:18. CUW netted two goals in less than a minute to make it an 11-9 game. Elysia Pitts (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) recorded her first collegiate goal at 5:28 to close out both team's scoring.
 
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) was in goal, made 18 saves in 60 minutes of play.
 
The Pointers head to Davenport, Iowa on Tuesday (Mar. 17) to face Saint Ambrose. Opening draw is set for 4:00 p.m.
