EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The No. 22 UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (17-4, 7-3) took sole possession of first place in the WIAC standings with an 82-66 win at UW-Eau Claire (14-7, 3-7) on Saturday.
Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) poured in a game-high 28 points.
Carter Combs (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) recorded his first career double-double with 12 points and a game-high13 rebounds.
Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) and
Max Raimer (Sun Prairie, Wis./East) were also in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Logan Baumgartner (Medford, Wis./Medford) had four points early and Combs and Miron buried a three-pointer each for a 14-6 lead. Miron added six more points and then nailed another three to put the lead at 27-19. Butler completed an and-one late and the advantage was just 32-30 at the half.
Baumgartner and Raimer hit consecutive threes to start the second half. Combs buried a three as the lead reached 10, 47-37.
Josh Bocher (Kewaskum, Wis./Kewaskum) completed an and-one and Raimer and Butler hit from beyond the arc on three-straight possessions to go up 67-48.
Butler poured in nine-straight UWSP points and the Pointers were ahead 78-57 with 4:04 remaining.
The Pointers travel to UW-River Falls on Wednesday (Feb. 11) for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Falcons.
