SUPERIOR, Wis. – Senior
Maddie Andrle (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) scored her second goal of the game in overtime as the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (11-11-0, 5-4-0) got a 4-3 road win at UW-Superior (1-20-1, 1-8-0) on Friday afternoon.
The host Yellowjackets took the lead at 11:21 of the first period.
Senior
Natalie Ahern (Byron, Minn./Byron) got the Pointers level at 1-1 with 21 seconds left in the first period.
Alyssa Yokom (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) and
Riley Novak (Oakdale, Minn./Tartan) had assists on the play.
Claire Riestenberg (Plymouth, Minn./Armstrong) netted her first career goal at 1:08 of the second period.
Avery Engbrecht (Winona, Minn./Winona) and
Skyler Arneson (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) had assists.
The lead lasted 39 seconds before UW-Superior tied the game at 2-2.
The quick succession of goals saw UWSP regain the lead at 2:21 of the second period, the fourth goal in three minutes of game action. Andrle scored her first of the game with Novak and
Abby Skelly (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) assisting on the go-ahead goal.
UWSP's 3-2 advantage lasted until the final minute of regulation. At 19:03 of the third, the Yellowjackets scored on the power play to tie the game at 3-3 and send it to overtime.
In overtime, Andrle netted the game-winner at the 1:29 mark.
Molly Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd) and
Tara Rigan (Lindenhurst, Ill./Lakes Community) had assists on the game-winner.
UWSP goaltender
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) made 34 saves to earn the win. UW-Superior goaltender Jayda Moyer had 31 saves.
The Pointers and Yellowjackets wrap up the weekend and season series on Saturday (Feb. 7). Puck drop in Superior is set for 2:00 p.m.
