SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (12-12-2) advanced to the semifinal round with a 2-1 win at UW-Superior (13-11-2) in the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's) first round on Saturday.
Alec Hamady (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) put the Pointers ahead in the first period with his seventh goal of the season. Senior
Sean Bunting (Phoenix, Ariz.) had the lone assist.
The Yellowjackets pulled even at 11:49 of the second period and the game remained tied until late in the third.
Camden Markham (Houghton, Mich.) gave the Pointers the lead again at 14:01 of the third period with the eventual game-winner.
Alex Johnson (Calgary, Alberta) and
Nico Chmelevski (Northville, Mich.) provided helpers on the game-winner.
UWSP goaltender
Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) made a season-high 40 saves to pick up the win. Superior goaltender Jan Skorpik had 27 saves.
The Pointers will travel to top-seed UW-Stout on Saturday (Feb. 28). Puck drop in Menomonie is slated for 7:00 p.m.
