INDIANOLA, Iowa – The No. 23 UW-Stevens Point women's wrestling team completed day one action at the NCAA Region V Championship. The top eight wrestlers in each bracket advance to Saturday's action with the top three moving on to the first-ever NCAA Championship for women's wrestling.
 
Results
 
Alexis Winecke (Baraboo, Wis./Baraboo) went 2-0 on the day in the 103 bracket. She got a win by fall in the first round and advanced with a tech fall win in the quarterfinals.
 
Kara Kuge (Theresa, Wis./Lomira) was also 2-0 on the day in the 180 bracket, She won both her first round and quarterfinal by tech fall.
 
Briana Martinez (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul) got a win by fall in the consolation bracket at 110 to advance to Saturday. Margaret Gillmore (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) advanced as well with a tech fall win in the 117 consolation bracket.
 
Cadie Percy (Windsor, Colo./Windsor) notched a win by tech fall in the 138 consolation bracket. Brooke Schuenemann (Plymouth, Wis./Plymouth Comprehensive) also got a tech fall win in the consolation bracket at 145.
 
Amelia Adams (La Crosse, Wis./Logan), Cera Philson (Thorp, Wis./Thorp) and Kate Riege (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead Union) moved into the final eight in the 124, 131 and 207 brackets.
 
Day two action at the NCAA Region V Championship begins at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 21).
