STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (11-2, 0-2) saw No. 8 UW-Whitewater (11-2, 1-1) pull away in the fourth quarter as the Pointers fell, 56-48, in Wednesday's conference game.
Emma Kilpatrick (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) and
Maija Rice (L'Anse, Mich./L'Anse Area) were both in double figures with 10 and 12 points, respectively.
Karissa Smith (Freedom, Wis./Appleton North) added nine points, all from behind the arc. Kilpatrick led the Pointers with eight rebounds.
Rice scored the first four points for UWSP.
Ava Loftus (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) added a bucket and Smith nailed her first three of the game. Kilpatrick made a pair of free throws late as UWSP led, 11-9, after one.
Rice started the second quarter with a layup.
Jessilyn Ernst (Pardeeville, Wis./Pardeeville) and
Rachel Hagen (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) each made a layup with Smith burying another three in between. Smith hit again from beyond the arc and Rice made a bucket in the final minute as the lead was 25-22 at the break.
Kilpatrick had four points in the third quarter and Loftus drained a three-pointer.
Brenna Gehri (Oshkosh, Wis./West) made a late layup and UWSP held a narrow 38-37 advantage heading to the fourth.
Kilpatrick and Rice had four points each early in the fourth. Ernst made a layup with 5:14 remaining for a 48-45 lead. UWW outscored the Pointers 11-0 the remainder of the game.
The Pointers travel to UW-Oshkosh on Saturday (Jan. 10) for a 3:00 p.m. matchup with the Titans.
