OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (11-3, 0-3) fell at No. 3/4 UW-Oshkosh (14-0, 3-0) by a 64-41 final on Saturday.
Maija Rice (L'Anse, Mich./L'Anse Area) led the Pointers with 12 points.
Emma Kilpatrick (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) had a team-best seven rebounds.
Rice made the first field goal of the game for UWSP. After a pair of Kilpatrick free throws, UWSP led for the only time at 4-2. Rice made a layup to halt an 8-0 run by UWO and
Jessilyn Ernst (Pardeeville, Wis./Pardeeville) had a late bucket as UWSP was down 16-8 after one.
Karissa Smith (Freedom, Wis./Appleton North) and
Laney Panich (Wautoma, Wis./Wautoma) each buried a three-pointer in the second quarter. Rice had four points in the stanza and
Lily Truchon (Herbster, Wis./South Shore) added a bucket as the Pointers trailed at the half, 31-22.
Kilpatrick buried a three in the third. Rice and
Brenna Gehri (Oshkosh, Wis./West) had two points each as the deficit was 46-29 heading to the fourth.
Panich,
Aubrey Smith (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) and
Kate Vanden Berg (Appleton, Wis./North) each made a basket in the fourth quarter as the Titans pulled away for the win.
The Pointers are back home on Wednesday (Jan. 14) to face UW-Stout at 7:00 p.m.
