MENOMONIE, Wis. – The No. 11 UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (13-2, 3-1) dropped its first conference game of the season with an 83-67 loss at UW-Stout (6-9, 2-2) on Wednesday.
Josiah Butler (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) led a trio of Pointers in double figures with 13 points.
Seth Miron (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) and
Logan Baumgartner (Medford, Wis./Medford) added 10 points apiece.
Baumgartner and Butler combined for three made three-pointers early as UWSP led, 13-6. Miron and
Grant Manz (Kiel, Wis./Kiel) had layups on consecutive possessions for an 18-11 advantage.
Josh Bocher (Kewaskum, Wis./Kewaskum) added six points with Butler burying a three in the midst.
Isaiah Moore (Chicago, Ill./Evanston Township) made a layup at the buzzer as UWSP was up 33-27 at the half.
Carter Combs (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) drained a three early in the second half. Miron and Moore combined for six points, but Stout reeled off a 23-10 start to the second half to claim the lead.
Baumgartner nailed a three and, after a Butler jumper got UWSP within 57-50, the Blue Devils held the Pointers scoreless from the field over nearly five minutes with a 17-2.
Emmitt Huhn (Parnell, Wis./St. Mary's Springs Academy) scored his first collegiate points late as Stout took the home win.
The Pointers travel to UW-Platteville on Saturday (Jan. 17). The matchup of ranked foes tips off at 5:00 p.m.
