Klitzke, Danner Tally Goals as Pointers Hold Off Wartburg

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (4-3-3) earned its second 2-1 win of the weekend doing so over Wartburg (3-6-0) on Sunday.
 
Cass Klitzke (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area) scored her third goal of the weekend to open the scoring in the 25th minute. Kayce Wadas (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) served in one of UWSP's 15 corner kicks of the match. Klitzke headed it to the back post for the 1-0 lead.
 
Wartburg nearly tied the match in the 56th minute, but rang the shot off the crossbar.
 
In the 60th minute, Grace Peters (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) served in a ball from near the corner. The ball fell to Rita Danner (West Des Moines, Iowa/Waukee) at the back post for a tap in and the 2-0 lead.
 
The Knights pulled one back in the 82nd minute, spoiling Shae Lucas' shutout bid.
 
Lucas made three saves to earn the win. Wartburg goalkeeper Tulla Jensen had two saves.
 
The 15 corner kicks the Pointers earned on Sunday were the most since UWSP had 17 against UW-Stout in 2019.
 
The Pointers remain at home to face Carthage at the UWSP Turf Facility on Wednesday (Sept. 24) at 7:30 p.m.
