MEQUON, Wis. – Sophomore
Rita Danner (West Des Moines, Iowa/Waukee) scored her first two collegiate goals, but the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (2-3-1) fell by a 5-3 final at Concordia (Wis.) (1-1-3) on Saturday.
The host Falcons took the lead in the fifth minute of play on CUW's first shot of the match.
Danner scored her first career goal in the 14th minute to tie the game at 1-1.
Cass Klitzke (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area) provided an assist on the goal.
CUW regained the lead in the 23rd minute. Danner was at it again pulling the Pointers level with an unassisted goal in the 29th minute.
The back-and forth continued in the second half. CUW scored in the 56th minute to take a 3-2 lead.
Christa Borchardt (New Berlin, Wis./West) answered in the 60th minute with an unassisted tally.
CUW took the lead for the fourth and final time in the 61st minute. The Falcons added a fifth goal in the 69th minute.
The Pointers kept the pressure on earning nine second-half corner kicks.
Shea Lucas (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) made four saves in net for the Pointers. CUW goalkeeper Kara Claussner made 11 saves.
The Pointers return home to face Lawrence on Sunday (Sept. 14) at 12:00 p.m. at Point Soccer Bowl.
