STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's soccer team (5-1-0) hit the crossbar three times in a 2-1 loss to visiting Viterbo (3-1-2) on Sunday.
The Pointers saved a shot off the line in the second minute to keep it scoreless.
Devin Wilkerson (La Crosse, Wis./Central) was the first to hit the crossbar, doing so in the third minute.
The V-Hawks drew a penalty kick in the 13th minute and converted putting the Pointers behind, 1-0.
In the 40th minute, the Pointers found an equalizer.
Carter Smith (Milton, Wis./Milton) made a long throw in into the box and
Jaxon Buckley (Kingsford, Mich./Kingsford) headed it in to tie the match at 1-1.
Less than a minute later, Viterbo took the lead again as a long shot sailed into the upper corner.
In the 67th minute,
Keegan Frederick (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) hit the cross bar. Wilkerson struck the woodwork again in the 87th minute as the Pointers came close, but couldn't find a tying goal.
Jacob Havlik (Onalaska, WIs./Onalaska) made two saves in the first half.
Noah Grieshaber (Normal, Ill./University) made his collegiate debut and had three saves in a scoreless second half.
The Pointers travel to Ripon on Wednesday (Sept. 17) for a 7:30 p.m. match.
