MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women' tennis team defeated UW-Stout, 6-1, to open WIAC play and defeated UW-Superior by a 5-2 final on Saturday.
The Pointers won the double point in both matches winning five of the six match ups.
Tristin Jantz (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) and
Ellie Aitken (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) got 6-2 and 6-3 wins at No. 1 doubles.
Chloe Regal (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) and
Annie Wierzbicki (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) got 6-1 and 6-2 wins at No. 2 doubles.
Regal won her No. 1 singles matches, 6-3, 6-4 versus Stout and 6-0, 6-0 against Superior. Jantz took both No. 2 singles matches, 6-2, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-2. Wierzbicki also won both singles matches at No. 3, 6-2, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-2.
Aitken won at No. 4 singles versus Stout, 6-3, 6-2.
Brooklynn Steier (West De Pere, Wis./West De Pere) got a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles against Stout. Aitken and Steier each won a tiebreak, but fell in a super-breaker against Superior.
Allie Brosteau (Suamico, Wis./Bay Port) earned a 6-2, 6-1 win against Superior at No. 6 singles.
UWSP plays at UW-River Falls on Sunday (Sept. 14) in league action beginning at 10:00 a.m.
