STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (0-1-0) held visiting St. Catherine (1-0-0) scoreless in the second half of a season-opening 3-0 loss.
Emily Miner (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) put UWSP's first shot on target in the eighth minute of play to no avail.
SCU's Ashley Fugitt netted a hat trick in just over 20 minutes of play in the first half as the visitors took a 3-0 lead in the break.
Kayce Wadas (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) had the Pointers' best attempt at getting on the board in the 83rd minute as she sent a low bending shot towards the right post. But SCU goalkeeper made a diving save to keep UWSP off the board.
Shea Lucas (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) made her UWSP debut in the second half and made three saves without allowing a goal.
Erika Panella (Waukesha, Wis./Kettle Moraine) made the start and had one save.
The Pointers travel to Concordia University Chicago on Sunday (Aug. 31) for a 2:00 p.m. match.
