GEORGETOWN, Texas – The UW-Stevens Point women's lacrosse team (2-9, 1-2) earned the first win of interim head coach
Katie Lindsley's tenure with a 13-7 win at Southwestern (1-10, 0-3).
The host Pirates scored twice in the opening minute to put UWSP down, 2-0.
Aliseah Senart (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) got UWSP on the board at 4:53 of the first quarter with
Aubrey Keeping (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead) assisting on the goal. Keeping tied the game off an assist from
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) less than a minute later.
Southwestern regained the lead with lead in the second quarter. Leising answered with two consecutive goals.
Marissa Van Dyke (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Southwest) assisted on the first at 10:18 to tie the game.
Barrie Bahr (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) assisted on Leising's second at 5:27 as UWSP led, 3-2, at halftime.
Keeping scored back-to-back goals to start the third quarter. Her second was assisted on by
Paige Allen (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove). The Pirates scored the next two goals to get within 6-5. Keeping and Van Dyke added late goals as UWSP took an 8-5 advantage to the fourth.
Barr scored consecutive player-up goals at 8:52 and 7:58 of the fourth. Keeping added a player-up goal at 7:29. Barr scored again at 5:35 and Leising scored UWSP's fifth consecutive goal at 4:28.
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) played all 60 minutes and made 13 saves in the win.
The Pointers begin a three-game homestand on Wednesday (April 9) against UW-La Crosse. Opening draw is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
