PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (6-10, 2-4) split a doubleheader to begin a weekend series at UW-Platteville (6-8, 1-6). UWSP took game one, 10-5, before falling short in game two, 3-2.
Nick Argersinger (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) had four hits on the day and drove in three in the game one win.
Tyler Soule (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) also had three RBI in game one. He had a hit in each game.
Jackson Adams (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) collected five hits on the day, four in game one. He scored a run and drove in one.
Anthony Tomczak (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) had three hits, a runs scored and an RBI in game one.
Game 1 – UWSP 10, UWP 5
Tomczak singled to start the fifth inning. Adams reached on an error and a fielder's choice put runners at the corners for UWSP. Argersinger followed with a single to tie the game at 1-1.
Mason Fink (Verona, Wis./Verona) hit a one-out single in the seventh. Adams,
Connor Olson (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) and Argersinger each hit consecutive singles to plate two runs. UWSP added another unearned run in the frame to again tie the game, 4-4.
Brennan Huber (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) drew a leadoff walk in the eighth. He stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch as Soule drew a walk. Another wild pitch moved both runner and plated the go-ahead run. With two down, Adams hit a double to give UWSP a 6-4 lead.
Argersinger walked to start the ninth. A Pioneers' error put two aboard and both moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Huber was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Soule cleared the bases with a double. Tomczak singled to push Soule home for the 10-4 lead.
Nick Paulsen (Balsam Lake, Wis./Unity) went 6.0 innings in the start. He struck out five.
Mitchell Crawley (Wind Lake, Wis./Muskego) earned the win with a scoreless frame.
Tyler Beyer (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) had a strikeout and Jeremiah Johnke had two in an inning of work each.
Game 2 – UWSP 2, UWP 3
The Pioneers turned two walks and a single into a run in the first inning. UWP added a second run in the second inning, again on just one hit. In the third inning, a hit and three walks gave the home team a 3-0 lead.
Argersinger doubled to start the fourth inning. He moved to third and scored on consecutive groundouts to get the Pointers on the board.
Soule hit a double with one out in the seventh. He moved to third on a wild pitch.
Landon Parlier (Wausau, Wis./West) hit a two-out double to cut the deficit to 3-2.
The Pointers stranded the bases loaded in the eighth and were unable to score in the frame.
Bryce Ehr (Plover, Wis./SPASH) struck out four in 2.1 innings of work.
JT Hockers (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) fanned three in 3.2 scoreless innings.
Easton Zempel (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) and
Drew Kloster (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) each tossed a scoreless frame of relief.
The Pointers and Pioneers close out the series with a twin bill on Sunday (April 6) beginning at 12:00 p.m.
