STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (15-18, 10-12) was swept by UW-Oshkosh (23-11, 14-8) to begin a weekend series. UWSP dropped game one, 8-1, before losing game two by a 12-3 final.
Tyler Soule (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) hit a home run in each game, driving in three of the four UWSP runs on the day.
Nick Argersinger (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) and
Tommy Drohner (Plover, Wis./SPASH) had three hits each on the day.
Cooper Brown (Appleton, Wis./Appleton West) added two hits and drove in the other run.
Game 1 – UWSP 1, UWO 8
UWO broke the tie in the third inning with two runs on two hits, but UWSP starter
JT Hockers (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) stranded the bases loaded to limit the damage.
The Titans added three runs in the fourth on three hits to put UWSP in a 5-0 hole.
Soule hit a 3-2 pitch of the foul pole in left with two down in the seventh inning to get UWSP on the board.
UWO put up three runs in the eighth to complete the scoring.
Hockers had five strikeouts in 4.0 innings.
Kale Weisenberger (Stratford, Wis./Stratford) went 4.0 innings with one strikeout.
Nathan Krommenakker (Rudolph, Wis./Lincoln) pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
Game 2 – UWSP 3, UWO 12
UWO put up single tallies in the first, second and fifth innings. The Titans added four runs in the third and two more in the fourth as UWSP was down, 9-0, after five.
Brown doubled with two away in the sixth. Soule followed with a two-run home run to get UWSP on the board.
Argersinger singled to lead off the eighth. Brown doubled down the right field line to push him home.
Steven Wintheiser (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) went 5.0 in the start with one strikeout.
Kaden Krueger (Appleton, Wis./Appleton West) had one strikeout in 3.0 frames. Kaeden Wageaar made his UWSP debut with an inning of work in the ninth.
The Pointers and Titans wrap up the series on Sunday (April 27) with a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader. UWSP's senior celebration will be held between games.
