Baseball Suffers Sweep at Hands of UWO

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (15-20, 10-14) got swept by UW-Oshkosh (25-11, 16-8) on Sunday and suffered the first four-game sweep to UWO since the 2006 season. UWSP's rally in game one came up short, 5-3, before the Titans run-ruled UWSP, 14-4, in game two.
 
Brennan Huber (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln), Tyler Soule (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) and Kamden Oliver (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) had three hits and a run scored each on the day.  Oliver had an RBI in game one. Connor Olson (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead), Nick Argersinger (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) and Anthony Tomczak (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) added two hits apiece.
 
Game 1 – UWSP 3, UWO 5
UWO took a 1-0 lead in the second. The Titans added two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to put UWSP behind, 5-0.
 
Soule led off the eighth with a double off the wall in left. Olson singled to push him home as UWSP got on the board. Huber and Oliver hit consecutive singled to plate another run. Two batters later, Andrew Chapman (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) drew a walk to load the bases. Tomczak singled to drive in one run, but UWSP was halted there stranding the bases loaded.
 
Nick Paulsen (Balsam Lake, Wis./Unity) went 6.0 innings in his final home start. He struck out two. Easton Zempel (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) pitched 2.0 scoreless frames. Tyler Beyer (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) made his 67th career appearance, tied for second-most in school history, with a scoreless ninth.
 
Game 2 – UWSP 4, UWO 14 (7 inn.)
Jackson Adams (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the first. An error put runners on the corners for UWSP. Cooper Brown (Appleton, Wis./Appleton West) singled as UWSP tied the game at 1-1.
 
UWO pulled away with one run in the second, two in the third, one more in the fourth and seven runs in the fifth.
 
Tommy Drohner (Plover, Wis./SPASH) drew a one-out walk in the fifth. Isaac Beeler (Austin, Texas/Westlake) also drew a base on balls. An error gave UWSP a run and put runners on the corners. Argersinger hit a sac fly and UWSP made it 12-3.
 
UWO put up two more runs in the sixth to push the deficit to 14-3.
 
Oliver doubled to begin the seventh. He moved to third on a ground out and scored on a double by Beeler.
 
Isaiah Piscitello (Wausau, Wis./West) struck out three in 4.0 frames. Mitchell Crawley (Wind Lake, Wis./Muskego) and Braylen Nystrom (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) each had a strikeout in relief.
 
The Pointers host Dubuque in a single non-conference game on Tuesday (April 29). First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
