EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (15-16, 10-10) swept a doubleheader at UW-Eau Claire (6-24, 0-20) to complete the season sweep of the Blugolds. UWSP needed extra innings for an 8-6 win in game one before rolling to a 10-3 win in game two.
 
Tyler Soule (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) had five hits on the day, including a home run and two RBI in each game. Colton Martell (Sussex, Wis./Sussex Hamilton) and Nick Argersinger (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) each had four hits on the day and both had a home run in game two. Cooper Brown (Appleton, Wis./Appleton West), Connor Olson (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead), Anthony Tomczak (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) and Isaac Beeler (Austin, Texas/Westlake) all hit safely in both games.
 
Game 1 – UWSP 8, UWEC 6 (10 inn.)
An error in the second inning allowed Kamden Oliver (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) to reach second base with one out. Soule singled to move him to third. Brennan Huber (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) hit a sac fly as UWSP got on the board.
 
Jackson Adams (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) led off the third with a single. Another UWEC error put runners on the corners. Argersinger grounded out to drive in one run. With two down, Martell singled to push in another as UWSP went up, 3-0.
 
UWEC got one back in the third and tied the game with two in the fifth. The Blugolds took the lead with two runs in the seventh.
 
Argersinger doubled to begin the eighth. Brown singled to drive him home and get UWSP within 5-4.
 
Tomczak singled to start the ninth. Tommy Drohner (Plover, Wis./SPASH) was hit by a pitch. With two away, Argersinger singled to load the bases. Brown followed with a single pushing in two runs for a 6-5 lead.
 
UWEC tied the game in the bottom of the ninth on a pair of hits and a walk.
 
Oliver singled to lead off the 10th. Soule followed with a two-run home run to give UWSP an 8-6 lead.
 
Tyler Beyer (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) pitched a perfect frame in the 10th to earn the save. Josh Steger (Lomira, Wis./Lomira) started and had four strikeouts over 4.2 innings. Easton Zempel (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) struck out two in 1.2 frames.
 
Game 2 – UWSP 10, UWEC 3
Oliver and Martell drew consecutive walks with one out in the second. Beeler doubled to plate one run. With two down, a wild pitch gave UWSP a 2-0 lead.
 
Olson drew a walk with two outs in the third. Soule followed with a two-run home run for a 4-0 advantage.
 
Argersinger walked to start the fifth. Brown then belted a two-run home run. Two batters later, Soule singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. With two away, Martell doubled to give the Pointers a 7-0 lead.
 
Tomczak got aboard on an error with one out in the sixth. Argersinger followed with a two-run home run for a 9-1 advantage.
 
Martell hit a solo home run in the ninth to complete the scoring.

Kenny Schultz (Plover, Wis./SPASH) tossed 6.0 innings in the start and struck out six. Jeremiah Jahnke (Winneconne, Wis./Winneconne) had three strikeouts in 2.0 scoreless innings of relief. Braylen Nystrom (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) fanned two in a perfect inning of work.
 
The Pointers host a four-game weekend series against UW-Oshkosh beginning on Saturday (April 26) at 12:00 p.m.
