RIPON, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (13-12) got past Ripon (10-15) in non-conference action on Wednesday, 6-5.
Tyler Soule (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) hit a three-run home run, crossing the plate with eventual decisive run.
Connor Olson (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) was the only player with multiple hits, two, and he drove in two runs.
Colton Martell (Sussex, Wis./Sussex Hamilton) and
Anthony Tomczak (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) drew back-to-back one-out walks in the third. With two away, Olson hit a single to get UWSP on the board.
Kamden Oliver (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) followed with a single and UWSP had a 2-0 lead.
After Ripon tied the game in the sixth, Tomczak drew a walk to begin the seventh. An error put two runners in scoring position. Olson singled to drive in one. Two batters later, Soule belted a three-run home run to give UWSP a 6-2 advantage.
The Red Hawks got three runs on three hits in the eighth to get within 6-5.
Kenny Schultz (Plover, Wis./SPASH) went 5.0 innings in the start and struck out five while allowing just one hit.
Braylen Nystrom (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) and Mithcell Crawley each struck out two in an inning of relief each.
Tyler Beyer (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) and
Isaiah Piscitello (Wausau, Wis./West) had a strikeout apiece with a hitless inning of work each.
The Pointers will host UW-Whitewater in a weekend series beginning on Friday (April 18) at 1:00 p.m.
