Pointers Fall in Game One, Game Two Versus UWW Halted

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (13-13, 8-7) fell in game one to No. 1 UW-Whitewater (22-2, 13-2) by an 18-5 final. The Pointers trail, 17-8, in the eighth inning, in game two which was halted due to darkness.
 
Anthony Tomczak (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) had six hits on the day. He drove in two and scored a run in each game. Cooper Brown (Appleton, Wis./Appleton West) added five hits. He had two RBI in each game and scored three runs on the day. Connor Olson (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) had three hits, scored a run in each game and had an RBI.
 
Game 1 – UWSP 5, UWW 18 (8 inn.)
Brown doubled to start the second inning. With two outs, Tyler Soule (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) hit a single to give UWSP a 1-0 lead.
 
With two away in the third, Nick Argersinger (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) belted a solo home run for a 2-0 lead.
 
The Warhawks took the lead with three runs on four hits in the fourth.
 
Olson homered on the first pitch in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 3-3.
 
UWW scored four runs in the fifth and six in the seventh to take a 13-3 lead.
 
Tomczak singled with one down in the seventh. With two outs, Brown hit a two-run home run to extend the game.
 
UWW piled on five runs in the top of the eighth on two hits to close out the scoring.
 
JT Hockers (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) went 4.0 innings in the start. He struck out one. Nathan Krommenakker (Rudolph, Wis./Lincoln) had two strikeouts and Kale Weisenberger (Stratford, Wis./Stratford) added on strikeout in relief.
 
Game 2 – UWSP 8, UWW17 (halted after 7 inn.)
Tomczak singled with one away in the first. He was replaced at first on a fielder's choice. Brown singled and Soule drew a walk to load the bases. Kamden Oliver (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) singled to push in two for a 2-0 UWSP lead.
 
UWW took the lead with three runs on five hits in the top of the second.
 
An error with two outs opened the door for the Pointers in the bottom of the frame. Tomczak singled and Argersinger drew a walk to load the bases. Brown singled and UWSP regained the lead, 4-3.
 
UWW scored two in the third, three in the fourth and three more in the fifth to put UWSP behind, 11-5.
 
Brennan Huber (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) was hit by a pitch to lead off the fifth. An error and a bunt single by Tino Ramirez (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) loaded the bases. A wild pitch plated one run. Olson drew a walk to reload the bases. Tomczak singled to drive home two as UWSP got within 11-8.
 
UWW put up six runs in the sixth on a pair of hits and UWSP errors.
 
Steven Wintheiser (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) had three strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Josh Steger (Lomira, Wis./Lomira) and Mitchell Crawley (Wind Lake, Wis./Muskego) each fanned two in relief. Kaden Krueger (Appleton, Wis./Appleton West) tossed a perfect inning in relief.
 
Following the seventh inning, the game was halted due to darkness.  The teams will pick up game two in the top of the eighth at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (April 19). Saturday's scheduled doubleheader will follow.
