STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (10-12, 6-6) split a twin bill with UW-Stout (9-13, 7-5) to begin the weekend series. The Pointers won game one, 8-2, but fell in game two, 7-1.
Nick Argersinger (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) and
Anthony Tomczak (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) both blasted three-run home runs in game one.
Mason Fink (Verona, Wis./Verona) and
Jackson Adams (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) had a pair of hits each and both scored two runs in game one. Adams drove in two runs.
Game 1 – UWSP 8, Stout 2
Fink singled with one away in the third. He moved to second on a sac bunt by
Tommy Drohner (Plover, Wis./SPASH). Adams singled to drive in the first run of the game. Tomczak drew a walk and Argersinger followed with a three-run home run to put UWSP up, 4-0.
Fink doubled to start the fifth. Drohner reached on a bunt single. Adams hit a single to drive in another run. Tomczak then launched a three-run home run of his own to give UWSP an 8-0 lead.
Stout got one run in the sixth and another in the ninth to spoil the shutout bid.
Nick Paulsen (Balsam Lake, Wis./Unity) went 7.2 innings to earn the win. He struck out six.
Easton Zempel (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) struck out the side in an inning of relief.
Game 2 – UWSP 1, Stout 7
Stout put up two runs in the third on two hits and a walk. The Blue Devils added three runs on four hits in the seventh. Stout posted two more runs in the eighth to put UWSP in a 7-0 hole
UWSP got at least one runner aboard in seven of the first eight innings, but were unable to push in a run in any of those frames.
In the bottom of the ninth,
Brennan Huber (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) led off with a double.
Isaac Beeler (Austin, Texas/Westlake) also hit a double to put two in scoring position. Two batters later,
Tino Ramirez (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) hit a sac fly for UWSP's only run of the game.
Bryce Ehr (Plover, Wis./SPASH) went 5.2 frames and struck out six.
Kale Weisenberger (Stratford, Wis./Stratford) had a strikeout in a scoreless frame of relief.
The Pointers and Blue Devils wrap up the series on Sunday (April 13) at 12:00 p.m.
