UWSP Baseball Drops Finale at WashU

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (0-3) fell to Washington University (8-1) by a6-2 final in the series finale on Sunday.
 
Tyler Soule (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) had two of the Pointers' five hits on the day. Brennan Huber (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) and Kamden Oliver (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) had an RBI each with a hit apiece on the day.
 
Soule singled to begin the second inning. He stole second, moved to third on a fly out and scored on an Oliver single as UWSP led. 1-0.
 
The Bears scored twice in the bottom of the second on two hits, two walks and a hit batter. UWSP starter Steven Wintheiser (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) limited the damage by stranding the bases loaded.
 
A solo home run in the third put UWSP behind, 3-1.
 
In the seventh, Jackson Adams (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) was hit by a pitch. Soule, Nick Argersinger (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) and Huber were hit by a pitch in succession with two outs to push home a run as UWSP got within 3-2.
 
WashU scored two in the seventh and one more in the eighth to complete the scoring. The Pointers loaded the bases in the ninth without the benefit of a hit, but could not push home a run.
 
Wintheiser struck out three in 2.0 innings of work. JT Hockers (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) had one strikeout in 1.0 of relief. Josh Steger (Lomira, Wis./Lomira) tossed 3.0 frames with a strikeout. Drew Kloster (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) fanned two in 1.0 innings and Mitchell Crawley (Wind Lake, Wis./Muskego) struck out one in an inning of work.
 
The Pointers head to Florida for the RussMatt Invitational. UWSP faces Illinois Tech in the opening game on Sunday (Mar. 16) at 11:30 a.m. ET.
