RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (5-9, 1-3) dropped both games in the series finale at UW-River Falls (8-5, 3-1) on Monday. UWSP fell in game one, 6-3, before dropping the series finale, 12-7.
Brennan Huber (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) and
Kamden Oliver (Viroqua, Wis./Viroqua) each hit a home run on the day.
Cooper Brown (Appleton, Wis./Appleton West),
Connor Olson (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) and
Mason Fink (Verona, Wis./Verona) all had doubles with Fink hitting two in game two. Oliver had three RBI, Fink had two and
Nick Argersinger (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) had an RBI in each game.
Game 1 – UWSP 3, UWRF 6
Huber led off the third inning with a solo home run answering the UWRF run in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1.
The Falcons added two runs in the bottom of the third and another in the seventh to put UWSP in a 4-1 hole.
Landon Parlier (Wausau, Wis./West) and
Jackson Adams (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) hit consecutive singles to start the eighth. Both moved into scoring position on a sac bunt. An RBI groundout by Argersinger was the only run UWSP could get in the frame.
After UWRF put two up in the eighth,
Tommy Drohner (Plover, Wis./SPASH) singled to start the ninth. Brown doubled and
Anthony Tomczak (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) hit a sac fly.
Stevens Wintheiser went 6.0 innings and struck out three.
Easton Zempel (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) had two strikeouts in an inning of work.
Game 2 – UWSP 7, UWRF 12
The Falcons put up two runs in the third and four more in the fourth to put UWSP behind, 6-0.
Parlier led off the fifth with a walk. Olson doubled to put two in scoring position. Two batters later, Fink drove in one run with a groundout.
Drew Mistele (Baraboo, Wis./Baraboo) and Huber each drew a base on balls to load the bases. Argersinger singled to push in one run. Oliver was hit by a pitch to plate another as the Pointers cut the deficit in half, 6-3.
The Falcons widened the deficit with four runs in the fifth.
Fink hit a double to start the seventh. He moved to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch. Fink drove in a run in the eighth with a double.
In the ninth, Argersinger hit a one-out single. Oliver followed with a two-run home run to complete the scoring.
Kenny Schultz (Plover, Wis./SPASH) struck out four in 3.0 innings of work.
JT Hockers (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) and
Joe Schneider (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) each had one strikeout and
Drew Kloster (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) fanned two as each worked a frame.
The Pointers continue league play on the road at UW-Platteville beginning on Saturday (Apr. 5) with a doubleheader at 12:00 p.m.
