NOTRE DAME, Ill.—The UW-Stevens Point women's lacrosse team (1-7) wrapped up the non-conference schedule falling to Saint Mary's College (3-5) by a 16-6 final on Saturday.
SMC opened up the game with three goals, before the Pointers found the back of the net.
Marissa Van Dyke (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay Southwest) scored on a free-position attempt with 2:04 remaining in the first quarter to make it a 3-1 game.
SMC scored early in the second quarter to increase their lead to 4-1. The Pointers scored back-to-back goals from
Aubrey Keeping (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead) and
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove), unassisted, to be within one goal. The Pointers' defense held SMC to two additional goals going into halftime, 6-3.
Van Dyke found Leising for a goal at 10:40 in the third quarter to make it a 7-4 game. Saint Mary's scored two before Van Dyke found Leising, again, at 9:09 making it a 9-5 game. Just a minute later, Leising found the back of the net, unassisted. Saint Mary's went on an offensive run in the remaining regulation time.
Emily Greige was in goal, completing 14 saves in 60 minutes of play.
The Pointers open WIAC play on Wednesday (Apr. 2) at UW-Stout. Opening draw is set for 5:00 p.m.
